Owner of a Lonely IM
I freely admit that I'm a shameless multi-tasker. I also admit that I'm madly in love with my wife. Therefore, I combine these things by keeping an open MSN session with her during the days.
Cheesy? Yeah, probably.
Vital? To us, yeah. It sure is.
Today, however, she's off visiting a girlfriend about an hours' drive east (well, one hour with my lead-foot DW behind the wheel,) so it's a little quieter out here than I like. I miss her.
Its not that we can't go for any length of time without communicating. We just choose not to. We met online and instant messaging has been a mainstay of the relationship even when we weren't separated by distance. It's just our little ritual.
The floor is yours, world...

I guess you know from my blog, that IMing is a staple between Jeff and I. We've had some of our most meaingful conversations with the help of MSN. IMing, bring couples everywhere a little closer.
Yeah, I know we're not the only couple to do it. We're also pretty careful about what we discuss on IM vs what we talk about in person. Some things are best said face-to-face, ya know?
Wifeypooh is anti-technology, so no dice. She (unfortunately) used to work in the home and had instant access to a phone with which she could call me and "express displeasure" about some mess or something I left around the house.
Now she's working out of the home (yipee!)
Gosh -- I hope I don't sound too cynical...
Not cynical at all.
My ex wasn't techno-savvy and I used to get calls like that, too. Can't say it improved the quality of my day too much.
I'm back, hunny...and you're very sweet.
The text messages sent phone to phone helped, but I hate being "away" from you, too.
Are you coming home now?
Geez, you guys are so cute. And Canadian. Heh. :)
Nothing wrong with that at all. Except the Canadian part. None of us are perfect though.
Oh man, Larry, you are working up a right order of whopping soon. Don't make us have to FedEx you a case of whoop-ass! Maybe this time we will just KEEP the White House when we easily take it.... AGAIN!! :)
As for the IM, I have been a user of the technology from the early adopter series (ICQ# 306989 should give you an idea how early). I used the precursor to VOIP (a little purple app whose name escapes me right now), plus many others. Initially, I did not like using MSN because, well, it sucked and it was from the Evil Empire. I got using it more because it was the only damn thing they could not effectively block at work.
DW and I communicate constantly all day long on it, email and, yes, even SMS. Are we too connected? People might come to that conclusion if it were not for a simple set of facts.
A) We do not smother.
B) We WANT to be this connected.
Hey MS, why the heck is it that almost every time I comment on yours or PS' blog, I end up with a post idea? Are you two my Muses? Ackkkkkkk!
Well, dtrini, my pen name ain't "Calliope" for nuthin', you know. :oP
